Creating a sanctuary for those seeking sanctuary

The Sebastian Foundation – Guy and Jules Sebastian’s charity for families – opened a brand new garden and outdoor living area for a women’s refuge in Sydney.

Jules Sebastian said it was the second part of a joint project with Detour House to renovate two of its refuges. “Our Foundation recently renovated The Girls’ Refuge in Sydney with great success and we’re pleased to open the second project with Detour House.

“The girls were so pleased with their new kitchen, dining and living areas that we wanted to do something for their adult refuge as well.

“Guy and I are so pleased to be able to open this amazing new outdoor area so women recovering from trauma have an oasis to work and relax in as they move into their new lives.

“Special thanks to our project partners Green Options, who managed the design and landscaping, and Coco Republic, who donated outdoor furniture, for helping to create such a restorative space with the new garden."

SOS spokeswoman Roxanne McMurray said the Foundation’s commitment and passion was making a huge difference.

“The Girls’ Refuge has already had an amazing makeover and our young girls are so proud and happy in their new home.

“We’re so pleased to be able to partner with Guy and Jules again for our adult residents. The women have experienced domestic violence and child abuse and live on site while they go through the Detour House drug and alcohol recovery program – this new outdoor area will have a really positive impact on their recovery.”
